Donate Blood, Share Life | World Blood Donor Day

June 14 is observed as the World Blood Donor Day every year as a token of gratitude to thousands of blood donors who voluntarily offer their life-saving gift of blood to the needy. The observance also aims to create awareness among the people on the importance of blood donation.
Several thousands of people in our country need blood donations everyday to stay alive. Though we are more likely to associate those who need blood to trauma and accident victims, patients with chronic conditions such as sickle cell anemia or other blood clotting diseases, those undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer and those who require surgery also need blood transfusions.
All healthy people above the age of 16 can donate blood. The blood donated by a single person is separated into three different parts, which means one donation helps three people in need at a time. Just imagine the number of people you will be saving if you donate blood once or twice in a year!
